Ericsson sat behind his expansive desk, face illuminated by the holo-display in his darkened office as the skyline formed a panorama behind him.
His steely gaze darted over the lines of another report on the Cygnus unit Why does that damned Gemini LAI always have to send these things in 'narrative writing mode' He grumbled to the inside of his head. As if I have time to read nightly short stories written by a computer...What I wouldn't give for bullet points right now...
"Well, so long as this one doesn't have a fight scene in the middle of a public road..." He said to himself out loud yet under his breath.
"What was that Sir?" Came the voice of his secretary from outside.
"Don't worry about it Ms Stevens, just bring me a fresh pot of coffee and hold my calls for the next half an hour." replied the Assistant Director as he sat back in his chair.
Natalya was terrified and Smith had blocked out almost all memory of what had happened down there, but they emerged alive and in one piece from the filthy dark beneath the arcology. Before too long Natalya had relayed to Smith just what they had encountered down there before he called it in to an OIS SPAT team as a high priority.
Later that day, having received some intel from Skinner, Fabius called a covert meeting in the safehouse.
Since the original appearance of Hassan and the Circlet the GIA had assigned a team of analysts to the case, and they had finally dug something up.
Hassan and his other assistant had proven impossible to track or pin down, but when it came to Domany they had found something. It seemed that she had a sole living relative, a sister.
'Kiry' was studying and living under a false identity at New York State University, and they were going to watch her, learn her story, and see if she had any connection to her sister or the Circle.
Operation Cygnus wasted no time in homing in and setting up surveillance on Kiry using a mixture of drone-cam, hacked CCTV, and good old fashioned eyes on the ground.
For all intents and purposes she seemed to be a good student living a quiet and bookish life, but as the team continued to watch her they saw another side emerge after dark.
After a short disappearance she would reemerge in a much more revealing outfit and with an entirely different attitude. Even her walk seemed different as she made her way through high-end boutiques and nightclubs stealing admiring glances from onlookers as she went.
Agent Fabius also had another matter to attend to, a weekend fishing trip up to Rhode Island with his brother, Horatio.
A year ago Horatio had been rescued from long term confinement deep in EOD territory by his brother and the Cygnus unit. Since his return he had been trying to get his life back on track, and the trip was to celebrate his landing a new job.
Once they arrived they unpacked and had a beer before before Horatio spilled the beans.
They weren't there for the fishing.
Horatio had been approached by the EOD about returning to the fold, and as he explained to his brother, had been playing along in order to lure the hybrid handler out into the open.
The agreement had been that Horatio would bring his brother to Rhode Island for the EOD to prove his loyalty, the Dagonites wanted him for what he had done as much as for all the secrets in his head. He wasn't just a an agent, but an agent that had killed a Spawn.
What Horatio proposed was turning the tables on the handler and Alexander was the only one he could trust. His self-appointed mission was to learn the location of the remaining Atlantis colonists, those he had left behind, information he was sure 'Mr Green' would know.
After some hesitation Fabius agreed, he couldn't refuse his brother and Horatio knew it. They formulated a plan before Fabius called in the situation to his team mates. Smith agreed to meet them halfway with the prisoner if everything went to plan, while the others would continue their surveillance and investigation of Chrysalis and the Circle in back in NYC.
Smith jumped in his Enforcer and took it to full air speed as Fabius and Horatio finalized their plan.
Meanwhile in the university campus and downtown nightclubs the surveillance of Kiry continued yeald only puzzling results.
Midnight rolled around as Fabius and Horatio stood on the small moonlit jeti, knowing they may already be being watched they set up their rods and talked quietly about the weather. Dark water lapped at the wooden supports as the brothers stared out at the ocean.
Behind them they heard footfalls approaching through the long grass.
It was 'Mr Green'. Short of stature and wearing a long coat with the collar turned up he greeted Horatio with a cautious smile.
They let the scenario play out for a few minutes, feigning betrayal and surprise, before the brothers drew their guns on the Dagonite.
Their moment of triumph was a short one, as moments later green laser points appeared on their chests as three EOD commandos advanced out of the bushes with riffles leveled.
They were marched back down the path to the cabin as Fabius' PCPU sent out an automated emergency message to Smith and the other members of the team.
After reading the message, Smith, killing time at the rendezvous point at the side of the highway started his D-engine and accelerated toward Rhode Island as Natalya did the same from back in NYC.
What followed for the two brothers was a prolonged torture session in the small wooden fishing cabin. Horatio was the one being tortured but the questions were aimed squarely at Fabius.
Holes were blown point-blank range into Horatio's wrist and ankle as Fabius resisted, before giving up his access code into the GIA New York office along with basic intel on his current assignment.
Fabius wasn't sure how much time had passed, it seemed like the hybrid's questions and threats had been going for hours when one of the commandos spotted movement through the window.
It was then that all hell broke lose.
The Dagonite opened fire with his riffle and was greeted with a savage burst of automatic weapon fire in return. He stumbled backward seeping red from a dozen holes in his armour. Fabius saw his chance, and dove for his brother's confiscated pistol using the confusion as cover.
Gunfire continued to rain in from the night as the remaining dagonites scrambled to recover their positions and Horatio bled out on the floor.
With Natalya and Marika also gone Dara-Jim was left to continue the surveillance alone, but this night turned out to be different as he gave a free point to anyone commenting on how he polishes his dirty drones. Kiry made her change after lectures and then made a call. Dara tapped in para-psychically as he followed on foot and overheard an intriguing conversation.
Kiry was being asked by an older male with an accent if everything had been prepared 'for tonight' before agreeing to meet at a park just after midnight.
Having overheard this Dara stayed on her tail as she changed again, this time into nondescript dark clothing with a large hood.
As midnight arrived in NYC Dara watched as Kiry walked the streets of the top level, eventually finding her way to Washington Park.
A figure waited for her by the illuminated cenotaph.
As she approached words were exchanged but Dara strained to hear. He crept a little closer, behind some bushes at the edge of the light.
Kiry was still hooded as she talked, and Dara realized hat he hadn't got a good look at her face since she had left the last changing room. He shifted position, trying to double check he was indeed still tailing Kiry, when the man she was talking with turned around. The older gentleman by the cenotaph, mere meters from Dara, was Farouk Hassan.
