The first thing on the agenda was to rally the Anarchs, this was undertaken primarily by Gideon. Those that would be willing to take action should the Sabbat attack present them with one.

In broad terms:
Hinds, Blackjack and Karl were happy to engage in direct action if it would create a more equitable kindred society, but they insisted they were not interested in gaining power for themselves. They agreed to meet on the Garbage Barge.

Modius was just happy for a shot at Lodin and potential princedom, and agreed to meet on the Garbage Barge.

Juggler agreed to go, as did Gordon, Hank Cave, Dooley, Anita, Gengis, Levesque, Dickie and Damian.

Previous to this - Thomas had bugged the Winnebago and had recorded the discussions the coterie were having about the Anarch Plan; he took this time to talk with Critias and Tamoszius - opening his heart to them and telling them about Gideon's plans to unite the Anarchs to take advantage of the chaos caused by an imminent Sabbat incursion by toppling the Lodin hierarchy. Neither of them seemed keen on creating such instability and inevitable bloodshed. Tamoszius simply preferred a quiet and secure life while Critias did not strictly commit to a position and asked poignant questions of Thomas. "Why topple Lodin? What is more likely - a power hungry vampire with a hard-line on anarchs gaining power of Chicago or someone more tolerant of Anarchs than Lodin? If you wish to cooperate with humans why do you keep humans addicted to vitae? Where are your loyalties? To the innocents of Chicago or to those that call themselves your friends?" etc

Thomas, wracked with a gnawing guilt began to recite the principles of Entelechy. Again and again he kept thinking "Never allow a crime to go unpunished...never participate in the murder of innocents...". Concluding the toll of Gideon's actions would be intolerable he decided to give Lodin advance warning. Lodin was shocked, and demanded Thomas find some hard evidence so that Lodin may act. Thomas, torn in two, handed over the tapes of the Anarch Plan to Lodin and went to meet the rest.

Alberto went to his Sabbat drop point and began filling them in on the Anarch Plan. He learned from them that the Sabbat strike would begin as soon as they were clear of the Midnight Circus.

Reg had tea with Astarte, and she took him on a strange tour, 'teleporting' him to Riverthrush's hotel to the original Gary Gang industrial zone hideout place. Astarte gave Reg the gift of seeing a burning tree in the centre of the room, a sight not in the least frightening to Reg. She explained that Cavendish had some interest in the experiment since he was promised a valuable asset in return in the shape of Lightner. However - she explained - the consequences of the experiment going ahead would be grave and she would need to set up a way to dampen or redirect the effects to avoid widespread death.

They met again at the Winnebago - halfway between Gary and Chicago. They began to compare notes about the Anarch Plan, but Thomas seemed distracted as if something weighed heavily upon him. Upon questioning, Thomas impulsively opened his mouth to lie but stopped. If he was truly committed to his path he surely could not lie to his friends; justice is a double-edged sword, after all. Thomas began to reveal the truth. He had spoken with his sire, the Brujah Primogen and Lodin of Gideon's subversive organisation. Sensing a brewing violent reaction, Thomas bolted for the door.

Unfortunately Danior managed to intercede as Gideon's initial shotgun blast went a little wide. Throwing it down he began to seek a withering opportunity as Thomas and Danior struggled with one another. As Thomas seemed to swing things in his direction - Alberto joined the fray, raking Thomas with terrible claws. Thomas cried out to Venturi to send help but Three-on-one was too much for Thomas and he was taken down to the ground where Gideon began to drink his soul.

Episodes XIX - XLI

Gideon told Alberto to warn the Anarchs they had been rumbled, since he wasn't under the contract. Alberto agreed and went around the Anarchs and confirmed the time and the place and that it was definitely on. He also gave the time and place details to the Sabbat. He began to laugh.

Realizing the Winnebago was bugged and they had killed a sheriff while under penalty of the final death clause, they headed to the Circus to try and find an emergency exit strategy. Baroque spoke to Gideon about his advanced rotting - blaming Mr Bile and Freak City. Advising him to speak with the Cone of Flesh. He seemed happy Gideon was considering staying at the Circus for a while.

Then they made their way to Fortunas Wheel to negotiate with Cavendish to break the Contract they had signed into.

Cavendish introduced them to some of the stockholders. A young girl in ancient Egyptian attire and a man, covered entirely with a large Mac except his face which seemed to be inside out. The Inside Out Man throat growled, and it was girl that began negotiations.

They would circumvent the contract in exchange for one year in service to the Circus. The service would involve corrupting the souls of innocents. The coterie looked at one another to try to judge the others thoughts - was the price worth paying?
They left the Prince's haven, comandeering vehicles to do it. But the vehicles soon stalled - their radios blaring static and the words "Experiment IV has been initiated", they were surrounded by goons and the sun came up. The sun burned their attackers and left them feeling uncomfortably warm, but not in pain a feeling that remained once they had woken up in their cell.

This time Lt Wilks, the officer in charge of the murder investigation, was with them - unconscious, Thomas fed him some blood and he awoke. He said he managed to pick pocket the cell key. They soon left but discovered the house was completely ablaze. Fighting through brave/dominated ghouls/guards they made their way out to the side exit. Thomas got there first at celerity speed carrying Wilks and there began to engage the Prince along with Mr. Venturi. But the Prince was too strong and commanded Thomas to re-enter the burning building. Thomas complied but began to struggle with the suggestion. The Prince began to attack with his extended claws.

When the others came in view, Merik fled - but was shot down by his former retainer, Mr. Venturi. Thomas took the opportunity to jump on the Prince's back as Vitally came in for support. Thomas began eating the Prince as Vitally arrived on scene and took one of Merik's legs off. Finally Thomas and Vitally began to devour Merik's soul. Vitally took the prize, and in fury Thomas descended upon his throat and took it off him by force.

With Vitally and Merik dead, emergency services on their way, they decided to get the hell out of dodge. Wilks offered to smooth things over with the police, Venturi went with them in a car.

Back in Chicago things had gone from crazy to crazier.

Thomas was visited by 'Molita', a vampire with power to control the very shadows. Molita tried to convince Thomas that he was a monster, and he should embrace that and use it to his advantage. That power was to be taken from the weak - not held by traditions. She said she would teach Thomas what he needed to know, in exchange for military service in the Sabbat. In order to prove his commitment to embracing mostrosity, Thomas would have to bring Tamoszius to them.

Thomas sought Gideon's advice, and together they decided to speak with Tamoszius. Tamoszius was at a loss as to why anyone would be after him, and was shocked to learn Thomas' dirty secret. He expressed concern that Thomas' moral objection to betraying his sire would not last and urged him to go see Johann. He also advised them to speak with Lodin on the matter, get things cleaned up as soon as possible.

Gideon sought Tyrus' advice. Tyrus said he'd set up guard at Tamoszius' and accepted Gideon's offer of help.

Back at Tomb Base Gary, a new - somewhat obnoxious - vampire turned up, claiming to know Juggler - a story which seemed to pan out. The newcomer seemed interested in taking action against the establishment and not avoiding confrontation as a means for gaining true independence from tyranny. Gideon was all like 'whatever, dude', and Alberto (sorry forgot the name :() was all like "viva the revolution!"

They went to speak with Lodin (Thomas excepted due to black lines in aura syndrome), and it turned out the primogen. And another new vampire, Ravnos McGamblinghands. Lodin took their report, seemed to accept it at face value (and shut down other objections, until such time as Gideon insisted on having McGamblinghands have his say). Lodin offered the position of bodyguard in exchange for signing a magical contract that included a controversial Final Death clause. They said they'd think on it, and left. McGamblinghands attaching himself to them as he had little else going on.

Back at Tomb Base Gary they received yet another guest - Elaine Wood, a musician that Thomas encountered just after NecroCaptain Joburt Zimmerman came on board. Elaine, who it had previously been revealed - was a magic user that had become unstable - seemed no more stable than previously reported. She barely managed to coherently explain that she had apparently received dreams and Anthonio's strange insight to bring her to Gideon. Paulos had asked her to construct instruments - flutes in fact - to give to Gideon. She began to explain further but Gideon began to play which alarmed her. Ignoring her alarm, Gideon played on - and vanished into thin air.

Elaine did not know where he was - but the others were impatient to learn so they began to play the flutes too.

They found themselves standing in a room in the fort at Carthage with Paulos. He called them Thanatos (Gideon), Didymous (Thomas), Leto (Reg) and Antigonous (Alberto) and Antipatros (McGamblinghands). He called himself Kreios.

In order to gain access to the materials they requested from the library they must first bring things to the city. The scholar Hero and his works on 'vigorous air' is one thing, but more importantly is Klytië and a discovery she has made on Malta. Ancient blood, perhaps from the first one. The ship was ready but they might want to check in with Kreios' childe: Critias.

They walked the streets of Carthage, 'Thanatos' being asked to put someone out of their misery as they lay dying of a sickness.

They reached Critias' modest abode, next to the great library. Critias was playing with the latest in technology.

Thomas asked him about his path - desperate to find help, but was told humanity was the path trodden on in Carthage.

They went to the docks

And set sail to Malta.

There they met with Klytië who confirmed the situation on the ground: A group dedicated to the goddess Astarte was holding on to the blood of an ancient vampire - Klytië thought it was from the First. It was guarded by the Teumessian Fox - a monstrous fox that could never be captured. But she had Laelaps, the hound that would always catch it's prey. She planned to use Leto to get close to the Foxes lair - the entrance to the Temple, by having him sneak of some discarded fur to give Laelaps the scent he required...
For the attention of Thomas Thomason.

The trail for Saul had seemingly come to an abrupt terminus with the Owls losing track of him somewhere in the vicinity of the Succubus Club. A variety of methods and modes were looked into, but nobody could shed light on the wherabouts of mysterious Cainite named Arthur or the hunter named Saul. Suspicions began to flare: Perhaps Arthur and Saul were in cahoots?

Fredegar decided that one way to learn more might be found by speaking with Brendon, the Succubus club manager. Brendon advised Fredegar of the reward of $5,000 for the capture or death of the transgressor and Fredegar managed to get a look at the tapes from the camera pointing at the Elysium toilets during and around the time of the slaying. They showed Arthur following Saul's son, Isaac, and they did not show Arthur leaving by the same route.

Free Fallin'

As Fredegar left Brennon's private suite and made his way out of the club, a scream was heard as a somewhat familiar sight began to unfold. Upon one of the hanging dance floors a young girl was being eviscerated and her body was dropped to the ground level dance floor. The perpetrator, Arthur Gonzales, made his escape upwards into the rafters and through a window near the roof. Not entirely certain about the particular course of action, Fredegar began a pursuit.

Cat on a hot tin roof

And so a highly improbable, but exciting Hollywood rooftop chase scene ensued, with Fredegar at last able to engage in some leaping strongly assisted with Potence. Naturally all under cover of Obfuscate. All was going well until, on one rooftop seemingly containing naught but a Rooftop Pigeon Coop stood a man with his weapon drawn.

Tossing his humanity out the back window (a cocnsience can after all simply be inconvenient and dangerous) Fredegar continued his pursuit, moving to hamstring the man who had been surprised during his rooftop self-training by a insane vampire, but instead taking off his foot and lower leg.

With that done, Fredegar managed to track Arthur to an old abandoned apartment building, filled with an overwhelming stench of decay and death. For a while, that cat on the hot tin roof became a deadly game of cat and cat as both supernatural hunters prowled the building in search of the other. Fredegar caught site of Arthur, clinging on above a door frame and opened fire. Arthur, suddenly aware of Fredegar began a viscious counter assault which was dodged by Fredegar before collapsing to the floor and slowly beginning to rot.

A surprising turn of events, and Fredegar's immediate response was to drain Arthur to his last drop of blood and carry his dessicated corpse back over the roof tops of Chicago to present evidence of his slaying and to collect his reward. After so doing, he went back and got medical help for Ghost Dog as a token gesture of kindness.

Down time

Painting the town red

Anthonio decided to make his way to the Succubus club, but was struck by an urge to enter a smaller Yuppie-ish bar with a large fireplace and open fire as its main attraction. Overcoming a sense of dread at the open flames he walked in and began to soak in the atmosphere. Unfortunately a log rolled off the open fire, landed on some magazines and before long the whole place was a hellish inferno. As Anthonio fleed he gets a sense of deja vu as the scene he leaves behind is entirely like a dream he had had as a young boy.

The strange woman

In addition to that weirdness, Anthonio received a rather strange call from a young woman who seemed overly familiar with him. This was a little disturbing and she seemed to be trying to arrange a date with him.

Later, on the same lines, he had a sort of vision of giving his telephone number to an attractive woman who grabbed his arm in the Succubus Club. The vision is disturbed by a phone call. The same woman, only this time she seems disturbed that he didn't meet her at the Club last night.

Only the Succubus Club is closed due to the high frequency of bloody murders taking place there. Very odd.

Of Dogs, Drugs, and Derring-do

The coterie decided that the Succubus Club's full security tapes held the key to all their woes. Anthonio volunteered to break in, and a few minutes later returned - telling the coterie that there was no point doing it and attempted to leave. An attempt to bribe Anthonio with Copiously Cained Cocaine filled Canine was not enough - though Anthonio did take the dying dog and put it in his glove box to give his car a certain 'dead dog' odour. Fredegar also entered the club with the intent of theft on his mind only to change his mind mid action and leave. Gideon deduced that there must be some kind of security system in place set up by Brennon, and cutting their losses they left the scene.

Annoyingly everybody felt as if they were getting up a little late. It was making them kind of grumpy.

Watch it!

While playing a gig with Baby Chorus a waitress spilled a drink on Gideon, but he was able to control his rising beast and shrug the incident off. However, while at the Purple Ocelot Tongue in Gary - the new business name for Fredegar's outfit - he was approached by two girls who offered him $10,000 cash for two litres of his vitae. Gideon refused the offer and followed the girls, who seemed to speak with their benefactor on a payphone before returning to their standard homes.

A rose by any other name

A man with almond eyes gave Fredegar a rose, before walking off muttering insanities under his breath. This infuriated him. But he kept cool

The Groom

Near to his Chicago haven, Fredegar saw a man threatening to jump off a building. A crowd had gathered and seemed to be encouraging the man to jump. Those bastards. This infuriated Fredegar, but once again he quitened his bloody beast. Instead he kept close to the man, unnoticed as is his way, ready to intervene should the wost happen. It didn't, and emergency services were able to talk the man down. He had been jilted at the old altar. Like a bastard. INFURIATING!

Violent Bloody Death

While out looking for a dog to Frankenstein, Trilobyte got more than he bargained for. A pack of seemingly stray nay wild dogs gave chase. They chased him down an alleyway, decorated with little but for a corpse, hanging by barbed wire from a fire escape. Trilobyte investigated immediately, Bio-forenso-thaumaturgy, level 9 style. The results were conclusive - the guy was dead. Gruesomely so.

Rampant Hell

A crazy old guy began to rant about damnation and hell and souls and demons and the like at Trilobyte. It was kind of annoying but after a while the old man went away.

The Doctor

Thomas Thomson, PI, newly embraced Toreador, found himself the recipient of an invite to meet The Doctor at Chicago University. This he did, where he met Critias who grilled him on his stance on ethics and morality as well as law and virtue. He didn't seem overly appeased and warned him that he will be SCRUTIN EYE SED!

Cheese!

Infuriatingly Thomas woke up late again. Worse, someone had just taken a photograph of him!? By the time full consciousness had asserted itself Thomas was too late to give meaningful chase.

Children in Need

While out on convoy one fateful night they did happen to see a certain Scottie Cartwright interviewing a four year old girl. A modicum of investigation revealed the girl to be a vampire and she was quite terrified of "Scary Mr. Edwards", and was in need of a "drinkie". Playing on his paranoia and trust(!) Gideon managed to rid themselves of the Scottie problem and went, along with Trilobyte, to take to young girl to the Prince.

The rest of the coterie investigated the Orphange from which the young girl had claimed she had walked. Within its confines none other than Neally sat, weeping blood tears as fearful children huddled in one corner of that terrible cold dormitory. With a wink and whistle and he-haw-ho, the mighty coterie...no I can't keep it up. They briefly probed Neally who seemed to express regret, but upon learning that Gideon was going to tattle tale on him, he fled. Pursued in perhaps the most farcical chase scene I've ever been involved in, Neally was shot at, jogged next to and he eventually jumped into Anthonio's car who was kerb crawling next to him.

Thomas Thomson began calling in favours to have the police redirect Anthonio's car now containing Fredegar and Neally to Lodin's place. Furiously they began to plot.

Lodin, upon learning of the accusation demanded immediate proof and called for DuSable to test Becky, the child they had taken to him. The results confirmed, Becky was Lodin's own Grandchilde and Lodin called an immediate, but regrettable Bloodhunt on his former chief aide.

Eventually, Anthonio, Fredegar and Neally made it back to his place - Gideon had arranged to meet there. Neally was getting itchy. Gideon and Thomas burst into Anthonio's apartment side by side, Gideon pointing a weapon at Neally - Thomas began to light a Molotov Cocktail of some kind and the fur really started flying. In due course, to add to the confusion as friend and foe alternately pointed guns at one another, Trilobyte arrived and Neally was head shrunk and staked while Thomas was also staked.

They looked around, restraining Anthonio from attempting to indiscriminately torture their captives, and wondered. "How the fuck do we deal with this shit?"
Bitter Crusade XIII
Dying Embers IV

The Death of a Dream...
And so Gregoire and Brother Mortius left the house of lamps, and silently walked across the deserted bazaar toward where Dragovich waited with their steeds.
He asked them what had transpired within the House of Lamps, and to an extent they told him, but also said that it would be bast for all the Company if they did not tell all. Dragovich, with some trepidation, agreed, and they mounted their steeds and began to trot back toward the Venetian Quarter.
They were half way back when upon crossing a small hump-baked bridge, they noticed a long procession of covered barges passing beneath into the darkness of one of the city's tunnels. They also noticed the three figures that stood together on the prow of one of the vessels. The Covenant of Three that they had met saving a tomes and scrolls beneath the burning monastery of The Divinity Within.
Malachite noticed and hailed them, and they returned the salute, saying that they were now leaving the city with what they could save of the Library of the Forgotten. Malachite also said that when they had met him beneath the monastery he had looked into their minds, and there seen that they had seen Michael himself, noting that he would not have permitted them to help otherwise. He asked that they tell him what it was that Michael had said to them, and they did, before the Covenant, their servants, and the Library of the Forgotten, passed into darkness.
Meanwhile in the palace district, Maelduin, Volund, and Baradeus approached the Grand Palace in search of Gregorius the Muse.
Upon arriving they found a force of Crusaders, some by the main gates to the palace compound, others gathered around the front entrance to the building itself, and among them was planted the banner of the Marquis De Monferrat, nominal leader of the Crusade, signifying his claim over the building.
At the gates they saw a Byzantine courtier with his attendants, demanding entrance and being refused by the guards there.
After pondering their options of getting into the sprawling pillared complex they decided to tether their horses down an alley and circle round the side of the vast Palace, hoping that the crusaders in residence there would not yet have the numbers to secure such a huge building.
After finding a suitable spot around the side of the palace they vaulted the wall, Maelduin going as far as to employ his newly learned gift of Obfuscate, and ran across the once-immaculate muddied lawns and gardens. Reaching the walls they begen to search for open windows, and finding none, proceeded around the back, and there found a servants door left ajar.
Creeping through the gardeners entrance and moving among the tools, the three Cainites ascended some stairs and found themselves in the rear of the Grand Palace. They decided to search the subterranean levels of the palace first, but there found only innumerable cellars, store rooms, and empty cells.
In the darkness of one of these store-rooms they decided to pause so that Maelduin could enact a ritual and summon a resident spirit of the place. The being that Maelduin summoned was a constantly transmogrifying and shifting humanoid form, composed in the image of the changing edifices assembled by the hands of man over the ages. It spoke in an unnatural sonorous tone, but Maelduin bargained with it, and the creature disappeared, apearing again but a moment later, telling Maelduin that there was but one other undead in the buiding, in the Sacred Hall, at the Palace's centre. Maelduin offered the spirit some of his own vitae and thus the power within, a moment later the spirit was gone. Maelduin relayed what he had learned to his fellows, and they set off for the Sacred Palace.
They moved steadily toward the centre of the building, their surroundings growing all the more rich and opulent as they progressed toward the ceremonial centre. Volund had asked Skoll to alert him if he smelled the scent of any other Cainites , and now Skoll stoped, and emited a low growl. The old wolf pointed them toward a gilded set of double doors. They approached silently, treading carefully in the marbled flooring, and reaching the doors, slowly pushed them open, illuminating the room within with the light of the torches they carried.
Inside the pillared sacred hall, sitting upon a golden thone, itself upon a raised dais, sat a man. He was dressed in a toga of Imperial purple, and held his head in his hands. Upon their entry he looked up, asking if they to had come to pillage his haven also.
He asked who they were and they told him, he replied that he was Caius, childe of Antonius, Basileus on the Antonian Ventrue.
Baradeus questioned as to why he sat alone in the dark while his city fell around him, he merely replied that all was lost, and Michael was no where to be found. The told him that they had seen Michael in an alley near the Venetian Quarter not long after first arriving in the city. Upon hearing this Caius rose like a mon posessed saying that he must find Michael, and they detected in his voice, not desire to see the Prince unharmed, but a simmering hatred.
He stormed up from his throne, his form strong and proud oncemore, and marched passed them, saying that he must find Michael.
Knowing that Gregorius would not be present in the Palace, as Maelduin's spirit had said there was only one other, they moved to leave the complex by the way they had come. But Baradeus followed Caius, saying that he would find them later.
And so they left the building the back way unnoticed, while Caius stormed for the front, his purple robes billowing about him, and Baradeus hot on his heels.
Caius reached the first group of Crusaders as they neared the front entrance, they stared in surprise as the Imperially robed Ventrue simply strode passed them. But they shouted, and another group came into the passage ahead of them, blocking their way.
Cius simply batted all ten of them aside and into the walls with bone crunching thuds, and continued on his way as Baradeus followed.
But the cries of injured men had summoned others, and so Caius drew his long sword, culling the men like cattle as he continued his progress. Yet more men came, and more, until spears and arrows assailed them from all sides as literally hundreds of Knights and soldiers fought them to near a standstill. The corpses were heaped high around Caius, who fought with the abandon of a man possessed, and Baradeus, now with his own sword drawn and fighting as hard as he could, many dying around him. But fight as hard as he might against the mortal soldiers, they were to many, and from a multitude of deep wounds, Baradeus fell to the floor, as the fight moved over him.
Caius continued, uncaring that his toga was now ablaze from fire arrows, and as Baradeus lifted his head, he saw the great Basileus go down, as Knights swarmed on.
Having been left for dead he found escape non to difficult, and ran for the side of the building, there encountering Maelduin and Volund, who hearing the sounds of battle, had decided to wait and see what became of him. And after Maelduin smashed his face in trying to vault the Palace walls, they returned to their horses to find them stolen by looters, and were forced to walk back to their quarters before the sun rose.
Once back there they found Dragovich, Mortius, and Gregoire, and as was their custom, they debated and discussed what had happened that night, until the rising sun forced them to sleep.
They awoke the next night, and after making ready, set off for the Kygnaeon Amphitheatre in search of Gregorius The Muse of performance.
They rode to the high city once again passing crusaders and deserted pillared buildings. At last they came to the semi-circular amphitheatre, one intended for oratory and not plebeian spectacles.
They were greeted by the sound of a gentle weeping, and saw on the tiers above, another man with his head buried in his hands. The slender man wore a white senatorial toga, and when he looked up to them they saw blood-tears streaming down his face.
He asked them if they had come to end his suffering, they replied that they had been sent by Bishop Alfonso to bring him back, and he said that his name was Gregorius, Muse of Performance, and that he would rather die than go back to perform for the Latin Bishop, for to de so would only validate his actions.
The Company, having already found they own distaste for Alfonso, now found them selves unwilling to drag the poor soul back to him.
Gregorius went on to say that he had so many sins to confess, and Brother Anthony, telling him that he was such a priest, agreed to hear it. Gregorius told of how he was partially responsible for Michael's maddness, having been using the arts of his clan to fill the methuselah's head with delusions of his own godhood, then, also breaking down to tears, Baradeus told the Malkavian that he too was guilty, for he had murdured Gesu.
Gregorius called Baradeus a murderer before returning to his weeping. Mortius told him that he could end his pain, and he agreed, and so the good Brother took to his throat, draining him of both vitae and soul before he crumbled to dust.
The Amaranth flowered within Mortius, but by force of his will he kept control, and heard words in his mind, in the voice of Gregorius. He has gone to his Temple, to ascend... Go, Now!
After pondering, the half maddened Mortius told of what he had heard, and Baradeus recognised the referance, the Church of the Archangel Michael.
And so they left the Kygnaeon with all haste.
While walking through the night on their way to the Church, Mortius sufered one of his mad visions, waking dreams of angels and Caine. After his customary convulsions he stood and began to recite what he had seen, when a cry was heard fromthe roof tops around them And Caine shall return, and he shall bring with him his twin sister, Calomena, and only the Chosen shall be saved!
With those words the man and his followers leaped down from the roofs, but Mortius, and the always crazed Gregoire, stood in awe of the man and his words, and as Volund cursed the name of this so-called "Caine", Brother Anthony lunged at him with his spear.
The cult leader landed before Baradeus, and fixing his dreadful gaze upon him, caused him to flee in mindless panic. The other cultists landed around them and began to strike at them with their weapons, but Gregoire, seeing that Volund had become enraged and was about to strike at Mortius, and knowing the power of the Einhejar's strength, decided to intevine. He thus employed the highest arts of Dementation to cloud the northern Gangrel's mind, causing him to lose all will and knowledge, and become as a child.
Maelduin, ignoring the cultists around him, went straight for the leader, and with a mighty swing of his ancient sword, severd his head from his already rotting body with a single blow.
Baradeus regained his witts, but seeing their leader dead, ghouled the cultists were running for their lives, and he let them passed.
Mortius regained his witts from frenzy and did Volund, but due to Gregoire's curse remained as a drunken child in mind.
After they collected themselves and fed on the corpses of those they had slain, they resumed their journey.
They reached the Church of the Archangel Michael at last, and Volund's mind was his own once again, though his wrath at Gegoire was still great.
They opened the doors of the great church, feeling the power of it's faith, and saw inside the glorious for of Michael himself, stood, as if in deep thought. His form was that of a majestic and beautiful angel, with an almost stained glass quality to him and great wings emerging from his back. He turned to face them as they entered, his breast plate gleaming in the light of his city burning that poured in through the stained glass windows of the chamber.
The First Pillar had arrived..
They bowed before him, and he explained to them that ha had been both the Father, and the Son in his time, and now he must become the Holy Spirit also.
Saying that The Dream can only live on through the destruction of it's physical forms, both the City, and, himself...
As he spoke the doors were thrown open once again, and in strode Mary The Black, full of fury, and pouring scorn on Michael as she came.
With her was another Cainite, one that Baradeus recognised as Peter the Humble, one of the Byzantine Lasombra. Mary turned to them, accusing them of being part of some conspiracy as servants of Michael, Mortius replied that she herself had foreseen that they would meet again.
Michael made no apology for actions in the past, saying only that they were nesassery.
Peter the Humble suddenly cried out that it was all his fault, and drawing his sword, lunged desperetly toward Michael. But Baradeus was too quick for him, and siezed his own weapon, striking out, chopped the man's sword-arm clean off. Michael turned away from Mary and invoked the full force of his majesty, causing all to flinch and bow before him. All save Mary, who looked at him with hatred in her eyes, and began to aproach him. Baradeud moved to stand between her and Michael, backing up before her all the while. When he could go no further Mary gave him one warning to stand aside, but Michael himself told him to let her pass, and Baradeus returned to stand with his fellows.
for a moment a look passed between the old lovers, perhaps something approaching affection, before Mary tore her veil aside, revealing her black skin, and bit deeply into his ancient neck with fangs. They fell together, and for a moment the Archangel seemed nothing more than a man, before his majesty returned with one last blinding brilliant flash before his form exploded into ashes.
Mary let out a guttural scream of pure anguish, and looked toward them. Peter fled the church screaming, and seeing frenzy in her eyes, the Company followed suit, only Baradeus hesitating for an instant.
They ran hard and fast all the way back to the Venetian Quarter, a great guilt upon Volund's shoulders for his flight, yet he knew he had no choice lest he visit the halls of Valhalla early.
Most of the Company was resolved to leave the Queen of Cities without another audience with Alfonso, and so Volund and Maelduin went alone to the Bishop's residence while others prepared transport back to Venice.
Alfonso was not pleased to learn that they had allowed Gregorius to die, and told them they had failed, for he wished Gregorius returned to him. Upon further impudence he told them that they and their Company were never to go and never again set foot in his city once again.

Exiled from Constantinople, they sailed as torpored cargo with Dragovich to watch over them on a loot-filled vessel back to Venice.
As they arrived many ships were being unloaded on the Venetian docks, all filled with Byzantine treasures.
The Company hired rooms and refreshed themselves before seeking out Prince Narses, Archbishop on Nod.
In his grand villa on the edge of the Venice Narses heard their tales, recounted by Volund, he told them that they had acted well, and that if he wished for vengeance upon anything in Byzantium it was Michael, not Constantinople itself. He also said that they were right to be resistant to Alfonso's orders, for they were there as his agents, not as servants to Alfonso. Narses offered them the hospitality of the city of Venice for as long as they wished it, and then the characters were ushered away, where, at last, they were paid.
